Movie Monday: Act of Valor

Happy Memorial Day!My wonderful husband wrote this review today. I'm so thankful! So here he goes: Today we decided to review the most recent military movie because it is Memorial Day. The big draw to this movie and main reason we went is that it starred active duty military personnel. This movie actually portrayed our heroes as heroes!
We actually really liked this movie. Do not listen to the critics. In fact, this movie shows exactly why we do not like most critics. This movie showed our military for what they are, true unselfish heroes. Is that why the critics hated it? It showed Americans as good people which for me is a true refreshing story. I personally am not a big fan of these movies that try to paint Americans as evil. Here is the preview:Look, this is just a patriotic movie. It is low budget, does not have real actors, but has active duty personnel as the main characters in the film. Most critics say the acting is bad and perhaps it is, but these are the real life people. Also Hollywood actors didn't make money from this movie, but the military did. What an easy way to support the military with this movie.
The action scenes were really good in this movie. As a guy, I thought this movie had tremendous action. This type of movie is my favorite movie just like most guys. I loved the fast pace action. I loved the patriotism. I could sacrifice the acting because I realized that these weren't real actors. Once again, I would personally prefer to see a true hero than an actor anyway. Finally, I will put it this way, if you like Jarhead, you probably won't like this movie, but if you prefer action movies that actually portray our country positively than you will love it.
-----
It's Jenna again... I loved this movie. Like the hubs said, for guys it had all the action and a great story-line. I must say for us girls, it had the heart, the love, the passion between husband and wife and the difficulty when one's husband leaves to go fight for our country. As we left the theater, I told Noland that it takes such a special type of person to be able to sacrifice their husband's time and life on a daily basis. I'm so thankful for all those who fight for our country, our protection and our freedom! I am appalled by the negative reviews this movie received. This movie was fantastic. If you've got a love for patriotism, I would say this is a great movie to watch... We will be purchasing this one for the movie collection. Let me know if you've seen it or watch it. As always, I'd love to hear your opinions. That's all for today! Thanks for stoppin by,

Easy Calzone Recipe

One of my favorite things to make is Pizza. My husband loves Hawaiian Pizza and I've shared the easy recipe before here. But the other night I was thinking about something different but similar to pizza to make that's easy. I like to mix it up every now and then.. so I thought, I'll make calzones.
As simple as pizza and as Yummy.
So here they are.. topped with some oil and parm cheese. The inside is hawaiian cheese with cheese and pineapple.. Here's how to:
Ingredients:
Chunk pineapple, Ragu Pizza Quick, Pillsbury Pizza Crust and Mozzarella cheese.
Easy & Quick Directions: 1. Open your pizza dough and stretch it out. I cut mine in half to have to sections of dough to make 2 different calzones. These were huge so you could probably cut them in half again and make 4 total calzones:
2. I added some Pizza Quick sauce:
3. Then I added toppings. Mine I just put mozzarella cheese.. and Noland's, I added pineapple and cheese:
4. Then I folded then in half from top to bottom and made sure to close up all the ends.. so it all stays in while baking:
5. Then put them in the oven to bake. Bake according to the pizza crust directions. Then add about 5 minutes depending on golden brown color. I like to bake it on my pizza pan that has air holes.. It really lets the pizza/calzone cook all the way through.
6. When done, it will be golden brown and beautiful:
One of mine leaked a little sauce on the right..
After they were done, I topped with some light melted butter and Parmesan cheese.. but they are yummy even without any topping... Cut it open and eat some cheesy goodness.
Hope you make some of these cause they were super easy dinner and delicious! I'd love to hear your thoughts! That's all for today!

Do Good Anyway

Hey Everyone. Its been awhile since I've really just sat down and wrote a post from the heart. I'm not the best writer and so many times I struggle to my thoughts in to words. Let's just say I'll never write a novel. I do enjoy posting on this little blog of mine from time to time about faith, life experiences, and other fun things.
I love people, groups and socialization but do you ever go into a crowd and feel so annoyed? This has been an experience of mine lately. Here is an example, we went to the pool at our apartment complex on Memorial day to enjoy some swim time. Not even 10 minutes into our visit, another couple entered the gate smoking their cigarettes. Now, if you are a smoker, I'm not trying to offend... that is fine but please smoke in your home or in a designated place, not in public places/groups of people (i.e. at a movies in the park, another experience)... To be fair, there are NO "no smoking" signs at the pool but anyways. The hubs has bad allergies and (as you know) I'm pregnant so we can't be and choose not to be around smoke. As soon as the couple parked their towels right next to ours, they continued to puff puff puff. The pool area is not a large area so you can basically smell it everywhere you are. It's not like I think I am going to die from second-hand smoke but it is a bit rude. Annoyed, my sweet husband looked at me and said, "Let's just go home." We climbed out of the pool, picked up our towels and walked back to the apartment... trying to think of something else to do to make Noland's extra day off a fun day.
Do you ever have those days so easy to let stupid things get you down. For Noland & I, the smokers at the pool pretty much ruined the plans for our day. Luckily, I married the most positive caring person alive and he is really good at coping with difficult situations as well as quickly thinking of other fun ideas. It ended up raining so we had a 2 patriotic movies marathon, played some board games then went to the mall to window shop/get some exercise via walking. We may have stopped at the Cookie Co. too...
I have this "Inspiration For Living" quote from Mother Teresa that hangs in my kitchen. Lately, I find myself reading it everyday. Not that I'm perfect but it just helps one put things in perspective. Here's what it says:
People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;Forgive them anyway
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway
If you are successful, you will win some false friends, and some true enemies;Be successful anyway
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight, Build it anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous; Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget it tomorrow; Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give the world your best anyways.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.-Mother Teresa
This little poem speaks so much truth. Sometimes things in life don't go as planned like our day at the pool. It is OK. You just have to get up and keep going. Choose to be happy and you will be happy. Choose to make your day fun and it will be. My husband is really good at living by this poem... I don't know if he realizes it. He always chooses to do what is right regardless of the extra work it requires or regardless of those who are unhappy because they wish he did the wrong thing. He is fair, loving and forgiving.. and I am blessed.
So when life gets you down, just remember this poem. It's not about others, its about you and being the best you can be for our creator. So this may have not been the most eloquent of posts but Do Good Anyway

Make-up Monday: Outdoor Sky
To contact us Click HERE

Today I was trying to come up with a title for this make-up and I decided to search for colour meanings. I got many results but I came up with 'outdoor sky' as brown is the colour for outdoors and blue for the sky. This is also quite related with the weather we have been experiencing the last couple days here. It seems Summer has finally arrived and in a striking way! It has been really hot (I am literally melting!) and the sky has acquired this beautiful blue tone with no clouds - therefore the relation with my make-up.I gotta confess I love this style of make-up, I love to have a different look with my eyes open and my eyes shut, it looks like there's a surprise inside waiting to pop-out at you, like if it's a mistery what colour is on your eyelid!

And - because you may have noticed by now - I have changed the blog design again! I'm sorry for such a quick and abrupt change but the last design was annoying me as I wasn't fully happy with it. I wanted a more clear (and clean) template here, also a bit freshy to match this Summer feeling. I'd recommend you to take a peak at the blog as there are some changes here (including new sponsors, go take a peak!), my favourite being this Index of Features! It's still a work in progress but I love how easy it is now to search for one of my features!E - como já devem ter reparado - decidi mudar o design do blog de novo!

To contact us Click HERE

'Pão de Deus' can literraly be translated as "God's Bread". It's funny because it immediatly reminds me of a portuguese popular expression we have that is 'comer o pão que o diabo amassou' (eating the bread that the devil kneaded) which has the meaning of struggling against problems so I guess we could conclude eating God's bread might be a good thing according to portuguese wisdom! hahaThis is a kind of brioche with coconut topping toasted in the oven. It's a national delicacy so you can find it a bakery anywhere in Portugal from North to South. The most popular way to eat it is with a slice of cheese or ham (or both, just like I like it!) and I personally think you can enjoy it anytime of the day but I'd suggest having it for breakfast!

Pour flour on the table and make a hole in the center. In the hole put the baker's yeast and the milk and mash with a little flour, making a ball. Allow the dough to rise.Remove the ball, pour the butter, water and sugar, adding a pinch of salt. Knead everything well by hand until the dough is elastic. Sprinkle with flour if necessary so that the dough is soft.Place the dough in a bowl, cover with a cloth and place in a temperate place until the dough doubles in volume.Once the dough has leavened, form balls with it. In the middle of each, and with the aid of a knife, cross-cut the top. Brush with a beaten egg.Aside mix the coconut, sugar and milk and place a portion of the preparation on top of each ball of dough. Allow to rise for approximately 30 minutes.Take it to oven preheated to 180°C for about 20 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with coconut. Retire do forno e polvilhe com coco ralado.

Wednesday WIP: Katy Perry - Part I

This week I decided to take a break on the drawing I was working on and start a new one. Sometimes I gotta make a change to get your mojo back. It definitely worked! I started this last night and look how far I've got so far!I used to draw celebrities a lot in the past (to be honest, I would draw pretty much nothign but celebrities!) and I decided it was time to get back to it. Not as much as back in the old days but I guess doing some fan art every now and then can't hurt, right? I've been feeling so 'rusty' when it comes to drawing! I was looking at some old drawings and I realised I used to draw quite often but I guess college took my passion away from me! I do intend to draw a lot in these holidays!Let me know what you think of it so far!

STOP EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING! I just found my top pick of this week!! I'm literally jumping of excitment and squealing! This gotta be my dream top - I mean, it has a squirrel ,and parrots, and a fox, and... oh I can't help it! I'll never be that kind of person who loves boring prints, this is definitely my kind of deal! I just feel like squeezing those cute animals on the top! Man, I gotta have it! Can you imagine myself wearing it to college? (side note: my college is located in a natural park where you can find squirrels!). Oh yes, I'm just that dorky.PAREM TUDO O QUE ESTÃO A FAZER! Eu encontrei a minha escolha desta semana!! Só me apetece apertar estes animais fofinhos do top! Oh sim, eu sou assim tão estranha.

I am a big fan of Lizabettas but I personally think Tiff exceeded herself this time! It's no secret I love butterflies so I was blown away when I saw these two rings she did! They look incredible and I already know Tiff's work has always amazing quality (I so much love my butterfly necklace!) so I bet these look even better in real life! Go take a peak at her shop if you haven't yet, you'll be falling in love!

These two incredible prints from Denise Nestor just took my breath away! I love all sorts of nature drawings (despite the fact I mainly draw portraits, I am passionate about other types of Art) and these are simply brilliant! The amount is just the right one for someone like me (obssessed with details) and I love the round shape she chose to give her drawings. Amazing!

This dress from Miss Patina is absolutely fantastic! First of all, it's a collar dress (I did become obssessed with collares lately!), then I love the tree print (seriously, a tree? You know how much I love unique prints!) and, finally, the choice of colous is perfect. Enough said, I love it!Este vestido da Miss Patina é absolutamente fantástico!

If I ever get to do a 'save the date', I'm pretty sure I'll be using this! Can you find something more suitable than this? haha Love it!Se eu algum dia precisar de convites para casamento, serão estes que vou usar!

This pencil sharpener in the shape of an apple is such a brilliant idea! I love how something you use everyday (at least I do) may look pretty so you won't be feeling anymore like hidding it in your desk but rather display it on a special spot!

Last but not least, one of my faithful blog readers just told me she has opened her own jewelry shop so I thought of sharing it here so you can all go and take a peak! ;)

Hey Girl, I Workout!

It's a gorgeous day and it beconed me to come out and play in it today. Aubrey's grandparents took her out for the afternoon and left me with strict instructions not to do any housework. I was only happy to follow their orders. :) I decided that I just needed to be outdoors and decided to go for a walk. That turned into the start of me beginning the Couch to 5K program. I have this longing to be a runner. I don't know where it has come from but it's just this thing in me that makes my feet move. Late last summer and into the fall I dabbeled with some jogging. This year I'm committing to running. I'm starting with the Couch to 5K program.

So all of this got me thinking about fitness. This weekend I discovered that I had officially dropped a pants size and with that momentum, I'm committing to tracking my Weight Watcher's Points+ diligently, and committing to exercising. It's time to kick this weight loss thing into overdrive.
Here are some tips, tricks and tools that I'm using to help.

1. Loving My Workout Gear
If you're going to commit to working out, honey, you need to look good doing it. Wear something that makes you feel fantastic. Why schlep around in a baggy, ratty tee and loosey goosey pants? Invest in some quality pieces that will make you excited about working out. I fell in love with a pair of workout capri's from Old Navy. They have moisture-wicking fabric and they really do keep me cool and dry. I also love that they kind of suck and hold me in. I love love love these pants! They have fantastic reviews with one reviewer comparing them to Nike's workout pants. Choose tee shirts or tank tops in colors that you love. Love your workout clothes and it won't be such a drudge to put them on.

2. Keep It Together
I keep all of my workout tees and pants together in one area. My shoes are always in the same spot too. I'm not searching through drawers or the dirty laundry to find something to workout in. It's all right there.

3. Keep It Clean
I just heard this tip recently and loved it. As soon as you are done with your workout, toss your sweaty clothes into the washing machine so they will be clean and fresh for the next day.

4. Get That App
Okay, so I'm new to the whole cell phone thing. I've been without a phone for a few years now so when I finally got an iphone 4S in January, I fell in love. And, you bet your boots that I found some great (FREE!) apps to help me on my fitness journey. I'll share them all in another post, but two that I'm really loving right now are:
MapMyWALK
MayMyFITNESS
Both are awesome apps that allow you to use your phones Bluetooth technology to record your routes as you go. They also record your calories burned, time spent doing the activity, miles walked, speed...and on and on. MapMyWALK is strictly for walking but MapMyFITNESS also allows you to record your time/pace for different activities such as leg lifts and crunches, walking the dog, cycling, swimming and push ups. You are able to keep your stats and compare them to previous workouts. You can also choose to share your stats, routes and workouts via Facebook and Twitter. I'm not going to go that far but I'm kind of really falling in love with these two apps!

5. Commit To A Time
I know that if I don't get a workout in in the morning that it's going to be hard to squeeze something in during the rest of the day. What does your schedule look like? Are you someone who can get up a little earlier to workout? Are your evenings free? Or does your schedule change daily and you need a little more flexibility? Whatever it is, evaluate your time and determine when and how you can get some physical activity into your day.
I'm curious what your tips are. Fill me in. How do you commit to moving each day?
