Big News ... We're Moving! Not me personally, but the blog.
I have been writing at {cupcakes & cucumbers} as a side project to my main website at Brooke Photo Studio for almost a year now. It has been sort of an experiment, and creative outlet for me to share some of the ideas behind my imagery.
What I have found is that moving the blog away from the main website has resulted in a "prettier" format, but has some drawbacks. First it is more convenient to visit one website for business, blog and combination visitors, and second having the blog in its own home has allowed me to stray from my original intentions.
So I am moving the blog back to Brooke Photo Studio. The topics, and stories you enjoy will continue, just in a different spot. I hope you will visit me over there and say hello! If you are a fan on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Linky Followers your connection will remain the same. If you follow via Networked Blogs, RSS, or email please update your subscription.
Best,
Brooke

Back to school time

Is it seriously that time already? I'm pretty much in denial that my oldest will start first grade in less than a month.
Are you ready?Ready for the beach days to be over, the pool to be empty, the lazy-go-nowhere-days to be gone, the cool weather.
Well I'm sure you probably said yes to at least one of those.
Send your kids back to school in style with the newest designs from Paper From Heaven!

Baby Seat Belt
To contact us Click HERE
This baby moves, wiggles, climbs. He never sits still.

I bought this vintage high chair at a thrift store while I was pregnant with the baby {partially because it was cool, partially because I needed one}. *I have no idea where the photo went, and because we lost all data on our computer a while back I have no previous photo. You can see the high chair here too.

Well the cool thing about this high chair is that with the top off it slides right under the table, so its kinda like a "high" chair, and the baby can eat with us. No more floating chair in the really small room {with a 7-foot table} with his booster seat in it.

Insert problem: THIS BOY NEVER SITS STILL....even while eating. It's always "Jonah, sit down.....JONAH, sit down!!!" Over and over until you're blue in the face. Forget turning around to finish cooking a meal because he sees you in the kitchen therefore its time to eat, so he climbs in his chair.

I thought I was going to go nuts! Then I remembered that a while back I pinned this Travel High Chair on Pinterest. Ya know the ones you pin thinking "that's a great idea, only if I'll remember it". I kept telling my husband I was going to make a seat belt for him. Not that the husband doesn't believe me that I'll make it, it is just a matter of WHEN I'll make it.

I decided one morning I was going to make it. I really liked the idea of a quilted look like in the tutorial, so I set off to target to see what they had that was boyish. Well that was a fail. But as I walked through the isles I noticed their towels were on sale for $3.75 each. I picked one up and looked at it, it was enough to make the travel high chair!

It went together really easy and fast...aside from the baby climbing on the table WAY TOO MANY times while I was laying out the fabric and attempting to cut it.
What I love about it, besides it's orange and matches my kitchen. I love that its a towel, I can wash it off really quick after the messy baby gets out and wring it out and set it to dry before the next time he's hungry and it doesn't get all icky like cotton can do sometimes. Towels are made to get wet and air dry.

I'm tired of being fake, of pretending life is just a bowl of cherries and everything is wonderful. But let's not take it to the other extreme either, lets not complain about anything and everything.
Yes, life is not wonderful all 86400 seconds of the day, but life is not terrible all of that time either.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
Psalm 150:6
Ya know what? That's me. That's you. That's everyone. THAT is what we should be doing. Not complaining, arguing, being bitter, fake, trying to hide our fears or sorrows. We should be praising God. There is always something to praise Him about. Always.
I signed up for the Loves & Envelopes birthday club over at Marine Parents earlier this year. I've always sent off my cards with sweet notes to help someone have a great day. I got my first card the other day. I was astonished how outspoken a 16 year old girl was about her faith in Christ. I've read over her blog, and just amazed how everything she talks about on her blog shows God's love. I was convicted that I didn't share God's love with all of the girls I've sent cards to. That I missed all of those opportunities to point others to God.
I don't want to be like that any more. I don't want other peoples opinions to alter the way that I act. I no longer want to be caught up in what others think and care about me to control me. I've done it far too long. I'm sure there are many many opportunities that I have missed because I didn't speak up when I should have. I didn't say what God was telling me to pass on.
This past month my husband and I read through the entire book of Psalms. We sat each night and read 5 chapters for 30 days. It was eye opening. It was wonderful. It was something that in our 8 years of marriage we've never done, but now I look forward to each night sitting and reading together. It's amazing what transformation that can come when we give our attention to God. When we sit and read His word, and listen to what he has to tell us.
It started little by little at the beginning of the summer. I dumped all of my social media, I quit wasting time on the computer. I sat down to do work and went on my merry way. I started managing my time around the house better, my sewing time as well. Things started to fall into place, but something was still missing. My quiet time with God, my individual Bible reading. I started to keep up better spending alone time with God daily, and then reading with my husband as well. Yes it seems like a lot, but the comparison of what He has given me, I'm barely giving Him an hour a day. I should be giving Him more.
Things are definitely changing around here, God is moving. Things I held resistance towards I'm slowly letting go. I'm giving up the control. I've always told my husband that I will submit to him in what he wants our family to do and where to go, but I've always given resistance of some sort. I've never given full control. I need to. When I do I see how blessed we are as a family, I see what God does for us. I see the rewards.
Please stay around, see where God takes us and prepares us for over this next year. I don't know what it will be. I just know that He is preparing us for something. To go somewhere.
But You, O, the Lord, deal kindly with me for Your name’s sake; Because Your lovingkindness is good, deliver me. Psalm 109:21

Make-up Monday: Cotton Candy

I know I've been absent when it comes to posting my weekly dose of make-up. Honestly, I loved my old camera and was so used to take my make-up photos with it and I just can't like the one I'm currently using. I can still take photos, sure, but my make-up doesn't look at all like real-life. Colour seems to fade and I hate how the photos look a bit blurry sometimes unline the sharp look I'd get with my previous camera. I can't afford a new camera right now but I'm sure making saving money for a new camera one of my new priorities! I just wonder when will I ever be able to buy a new one... in a couple of years at this rhythm... it makes me a bit sad but you can't get everything in life.Anyway, this week I used pink, purple, blue, brown and white tones on my make-up (okay, you can't see it but cope with me) and somehow the outcome reminded me of cotton candy. At least I thought it did until I saw the photos. Still, I hope you'll like this week's make-up!Have a great week! xxEu sei que tenho estado um pouco ausente no que toca a publicar a minha dose semanal de maquilhagem.

Tights Collants: Primark
Necklace Colar: Ebay
Headband Bandelete: Claire's
I gotta confess I love comfy twirling dresses. Usually, I'm not into bodycon or tight dresses but when I saw this dress from Hope Alethia I knew I could definitely welcome it into my wardrobe. Look, I still haven't changed my opinion about too tight dresses but I really like how this dress can perfectly go into a more professional or casual outfit (despite being a bodycon dress) unlike those tight dresses I see out there that are just made to be sexy or whatever. I don't even know. I have always been very pudic and I don't like showing too much of my body. No, I don't feel forced to wear ankle dresses or skirts and full-length shirts all the time but I have my own standards and I think you'll never see me wearing clothing that goes under a certain length.Back to this dress, I love how fancy it easily looks but I didn't want to go for a very office look so I decided to make it a bit fun. I am aware some people would wear it very differently but for this day I decided to pair it with my heart tights and my Marilyn bag for extra fun (hence the 'I heart Marilyn' title, got it?). Anyway, who doesn't love Marilyn Monroe? I always wish I was as pretty and classy as she was... I think she has lived in such a golden age, both the 50's and the 60's were part of an era I wish I had belonged to!
Do you guys have certain types of clothing you think you'll never wear? What era would you like to have lived in?Vocês têm algum tipo de roupa que acham que nunca irão usar? Em que era desejavam ter vivido?

As usual, don't forget to 'hype' this outfit on Lookbook and vote for it on Chictopia!

Hello everyone! Hope you're having a great week!I've been super busy lately so just now I had the time to share this outfit whose photos I took a bit ago... the day I took these photos it was super windy so excuse me my blowing hair in pretty much every single photo! Despite from having waving hair, I felt pretty good in this outfit! I must say this was one of those outfits that feels very 'me', something that fits my style and that I feel comfortable in. This dress was sent to me by Hope Alethia - at first I chose it because I liked its olive colour but once I wore it for the first time I felt so good with how light it is and how it flows. I immediatly saw myself wearing it with this golden necklace and then started adding the rest of the accessories bit by bit until I came up with this... the shoes were bought by my mom for herself but she ended up not loving them so I have a new pair for myself! They're a bit big for me so at first I wasn't sure I liked them but they're so comfy, I'm in love with them! Oh and have you noticed the bag I'm wearing has the prettiest print with flowers and insects? I borrowed it from my sister, I couldn't resist, I love that bag!On a side note, I am now busier than ever... this week I got a proposal to start an internship so from now on I will have to balance an intership, college, studying and even my driving classes. I hope you'll cope with me and understand I'll have less free time for my blog but I promise I'll be making an extra effort to keep this running! I may also not read as many blogs as usual so don't get mad with me as I try to keep up to date!

As usual, if you like this outfit, don't forget to hype it on Lookbook and vote on it on Chictopia!

As usual, if you like this outfit, don't forget to hype it on Lookbook and vote on it on Chictopia!

This week's favourites Os favoritos desta semana:
1. Notebooks - Studio Oh
I absolutely love these notebooks! From botanical to animal prints, they're so pretty I can't just pick one! Yet, my most favourite might be the one with butterflies, the back of the notebook is fabulous! Be sure to take a peak!Adoro estes cadernos!
2. Penguin Love Dress - Sugarhill Boutique
Sugarhill Boutique just released a couple of pieces with penguins! How cute is that? I think I love all of them but I had to highlight this dress, the ruffles on top are way too lovely!
3. Anchor Slouchy Sweatshirt - Kill Star
This sweater has been on my favourites for too long, I have no idea how the hell I'm just featuring it right now but the truth is I stumbled upon it again this week and fell in love with it all over again. So cute for cold Autumn days!
4. - Bread Basket Pendant French Bread Pendant - miniaturepatisserie
Okay, I love everything Frenchy, no secret. But this pendant (yes, you read it right, pendant!!) is definitely one of my favourite jewelry pieces ever (along with a couple from the same shop!), I can't help but staring at it a million times!
5. - Wooden Fox Brooch - Bejeweled
First of all, let me just say how much I love clothing/accessories with cute animals such as owls, seals, bears, deers, rabbits... or even foxes! Secondly, I absolutely love wooden jewelry! Combine both and you will have the most amazing brooch ever... love it!Em primeiro lugar, deixem-me dizer o quanto adoro roupa/acessórios com animais queridos tais como mochos, focas, ursos, veados, coelhos... e até raposas!

This blog was founded on the idea that as a professional photographer I have many images to share that are photographed about healthy lifestyle topics inspired by my day to day life. I have written about recipes, food, weekend adventures, and fitness among other things. This blog has not only brought traffic to my images as a product, but has also been an enjoyable creative outlet for me when I am not in the studio creating new images.
Life has changed lately, and I have strayed from my clockwork post a day format. I am 32 weeks pregnant, still working full time hours, and have to admit that I am slowing down a little. I am not only slowing down in regularity of blog posts, but I have also slowed down in the amount of stock imagery that I produce on a day to day basis. Client work (product photography) has become the highest priority leaving little time for the stock photography that I love so much.
My goal is to take several months off from client work so I can focus on my new baby before coming back to the business in the fall. So priorities have shifted, and I am beginning to look into the future with the blog. I hope to prepare articles in advance to give me some time off when the baby arrives, and have implemented a new feature called Food Blogger Friday where I will have a weekly guest blog post in order to take some of the work off my to-do list.
So bear with me during this time of transition, and I promise to keep the healthy lifestyle articles and photography coming as frequently as I can.
Today's post features an image taken for stock of one of my favorite pregnancy cravings - blueberries. Normally I would have taken many images of this sweet fruit, but in my state I only got two accomplished before I just have to give in and eat them up!

Walking in Charleston
To contact us Click HERE

I couldn't be happier with the wide variety of walking spots in and around Charleston, SC. I moved here in September 2011, and soon found out I was expecting my first child. This made walking the best exercise to keep my pregnant body in shape. Now in my 8th month of exploring the area with my husband I am happy to report many a trail walked dozens of times and that we still frequently discover new spots to stroll in the afternoon or a crisp weekend morning. Walking has been good for our health, but also provides me with the best conversations with my husband. It is a free, healthy activity that keeps me emotionally close with my soul mate. Happiness fills my world, and I am thankful for each step we take together.

Loving Life's Details
To contact us Click HERE

I often write about appreciating the little things in life, but it is a topic that I think bears repeating. One thing that I really enjoy about the area where I live is the abundance of old trees. In the midst of new developments, I am still able to find areas where ancient trees have stood the test of time. Sometimes they are hidden in strange places throughout the city. I consider these the lucky trees that were somehow chosen to remain standing while others fell. Most of the time they are off in parks or countryside and beg for me to pull over and admire their detail. Spring is the perfect time to admire natures beauty, and I often find myself wondering what each tree has bore witness to over its lifetime. Mysterious, luxurious, and beautiful each tree inspires me to appreciate the little things in my life.

Best,
Brooke

Aubrey's Play Yard
To contact us Click HERE
While we live at my inlaws home while ours is being renovated, we've had to come up with some creative solutions for our ever growing little girl. For most of her life (until she was 9 months old), she shared a room with her Daddy and I. Then my sister-n-law moved out and Aubrey was moved into her old room. But, it was still not a space for her to daily play. Grandma long before had become creative and used a kiddie pool to contain Aubrey's toys...and Aubrey! It worked wonderfully until Aubrey started standing up and then the pool became unsafe for her.

We then graduated to a play yard. This worked so great for a few months but again, Aubrey was growing bigger and was practicing her walking skills.

The set up in the middle of the living room. We later cut the mats down around the play yard and filled the gaps inside the play space.

Last week we added more panels to the play yard, some new mats, and created a nice, big space for Aubrey to play in. It's WONDERFUL. She just plays and plays and plays. She truly loves it in there.
Here are some photos of her current play yard and a little personalization project I did to help make the space more "her." (I apologize for the lighting and quality. They were taken with my iPhone at night. Unfortunately, there was no way to photograph the play yard in the day light without it looking a wreck. :) )

I purchased these buckets at the dollar store. There were only two white ones though so I'm on the lookout for one more to complete the set.

I set up my Cricut Expression and began cutting out some vinyl letters for Aubrey's buckets. I used the font "Pharmacy".

This bucket says "Aubrey" with butterfly's before and after her name. Unfortunately it was really hard to get a shot of the entire name.

"Toys" with stars before and after the word.

Aubrey's Play Yard Set Up. We moved the couch and love seat to accommodate they play yard. It now takes up the back half of the living room. It's in a perfect nook! And yes, her grandparents are amazing for suggesting we create this space for Aubrey and for giving up so much of the living room for her.
If you happen to purchase these panels, the instructions will tell you that you cannot set up a square/rectagnle with them as having the panels not on an angle will make it much more wobbly. And while we found this to be the case, the play yard is supported on each side by walls, side tables, a couch and a love seat. My welder Father-in-Law is also in the process of fashioning stability bars to also add strength. Aubrey hasn't had any issues and she generally never hangs on the walls anyways, but we certainly want this to be a safe place for her.

Hooray for having a place that my kiddo can have a blast in so mommy can get a few things done during the day!
