DIY Chalk Wall

My boys love to play outside. They just LOVE it. Over the years I've had to become okay with this. To be okay with the fact that they will indeed get dirty.

They've recently found a love for chalk. They would color on the sidewalk, which was more of a grinding the chalk to powder right where they were sitting. I'd often have 2 little dust covered boys at the back door wanting to get in the house. I often thought of just hosing them down right where they were, but I just made them take their clothes off and straight to the bath. Now after many days straight of this {not to mention our perma stained sidewalk that we had to walk over all the time} I decided I finally wanted to make this chalkboard that I saw on pinterest.

With the baby's birthday party coming up I decided that it would be a great time to get it finished up! I got the products {a huge sheet of ply wood, or mdf, or whatever and chalk board paint} and I got to work. It was fairly easy since the bulk of the work was done, my father in law went to the hardware store for me and delivered all of the products I needed!

I had some primer on hand, so I primed the surface of the 4x8 foot sheet of mdf. I was able to squeeze 2 coats out of the quart can of chalkboard paint. Then I left it to dry. Another miracle happened when my husband hung the chalk board while I was at the store. This just kept becoming the easiest project I've ever done!

There ya go, it's all done! Below is what it looks like after being wiped down a few times. A spray bottle of water works great to get it wet and then just wipe it down.

Be sure to stick around later this week to see how the baby's party turned out!!
