How to Pit Cherries

I've always wanted to have an organized kitchen, but have anything and everything that I could possibly need at any given second. We both know that would never happen. Not both at the same time. Well unless you're living in a magazine or something.
Cherries were on sale last week. So I bought a lot. About 9 pounds worth. A man at the store actually asked if there were any left, and jokingly I told him "Nope, I'm a hoarder!"
After I got home I realized I had no way to pit 9 pounds of cherries. Panic set it. I researched online a method of how to pit cherries without a cherry pitter. The trusty internet told me to use a pastry tip. Guess what....it worked! Just push it in and out pops the seed! Now repeat 8 zillion times. And then, when you're done.....you have terribly stained hands. My prideful self though, why run to the internet I can figure out what will clean my hands. I thought of baking soda. So I made a paste and stuck my hands in, wiggled my fingers around a bit and pulled them out. They were worse! So off to the computer I went. The answer---lemon juice! Yes it worked. My hands would have been much better BUT I made them 10 times worse by using baking soda first.
I'm currently on a canning binge again. It started when I used the very last of the jelly that we had. I decided we needed to stock up. Yes I am crazy. My plan was pomegranate jelly, strawberry banana jam, peach vanilla bean jam, strawberry jam, and cherry pie filling. I've currently made 1 batch of pomegranate jelly, 1 batch of strawberry jam, and canned 3 quarts and 8 pints of cherry pie filling. I will share more when I finally get done.
