 Which Aurifil Thread Should You Use?
    For Detailed Quilting
Cotton Mako' 50 - ORANGE SPOOL This is the finest of the Mako' threads. The long staple Mako' cotton is very smooth, and strong. It is the favourite thread for detailed machine quilting. We recommend the Cotton Mako' Ne 50/2 for fine detailed machine quilting, to prevent bulky thread build up when you are stitching micro stipple. It is also perfect for invisible ditch stitching, as the thread disappears into the valley between the seams. We recommend that you try Cotton Mako' Ne 50/2 in the bobbin when you want the back of your work to be colour matched when quilting. 182 solid colours and 34 variegated colours available on 1300 metre (1422 yd) ORANGE plastic spool holder.  
For Machine Quilting  Cotton Mako' 40- GREEN SPOOL Ideal for Machine Quilting , it is a little heavier to show off the quilting stitches. This is the "universal" thread weight in the Mako' range, perfect for quilting, as it is a little finer than the Mako' 28 "Quilting" thread it is great for ditch stitching and fine detail work, while still having sufficient definition to look good when you want the thread and stitching to show. Available on 1000 metre (1094 yd)  GREEN plastic spool holder. You can  also achieve great results in machine quilting with Cotton 28 and Aurilux polyester.

For Hand Quilting  Cotton Mako' 28 - GRAY SPOOL This is a thicker thread and is fantastic for hand quilting.  750 metre (820 yd)  spools of Ne 28/2 Cotton Mako'  supplied on a  GRAY spool holder . The long staple cotton fibres and mercerising treatment, given to all the Mako range, means that the heavier Mako 28 is strong enough to withstand the stress of hand quilting without needing to be glazed or waxed. This is a bonus as it means that the thread works with the needle rather than springing and twisting in every direction as you stitch.  You may also achieve great results in hand quilting with Cotton 40 and Cotton 12.

For Decorative Quilting  Cotton Mako' 12- RED SPOOL If you wish to use a great decorative thread for your next project, ask for the Mako' 12 on the RED spool, as it is the thickest thread in the Mako' range. We suggest using it for country style hand quilting. A friend has been using the thread to hand quilt a creative design over the pieced centre of her quilt. She has used a larger stitch and this complements the ribbon embroidery and other embellishments that she has added to the quilt. You can also achieve great decorative quilting results with Cotton 28 and Wool 12.

For Machine Piecing   Cotton Mako' 50 or 40 - ORANGE OR GREEN SPOOL Perfect for machine piecing. We always choose Cotton Mako' Ne 50 or 40 for patchwork construction as it makes very fine accurate seams.
  For Hand Piecing   Cotton Mako' 40 - GREEN SPOOL Cotton Mako Ne 40  gives excellent results with foundation piecing . The "secret" here is that the fine thread allows you to stitch a flat seam. 

For Blanket Stitch Appliqué   Cotton Mako' 28 - GREY SPOOL
If you enjoy appliqué you will also appreciate the good coverage and appearance achieved by using the Makò 28 for machine or hand blanket stitch work     Cotton Mako' 12 - RED SPOOLSuitable for decorative buttonhole or Blanket stitch appliqué by hand or machine, Makò 12 is very thick and requires a large eye topstitch needle size 90/14. The most important thing to keep in mind here is uniformity, try to keep your stitches even, both in length as well as the spacing between stitches.     For Needle-turned Appliqué   Cotton Mako' 50 - ORANGE SPOOL As the name suggests, you use your needle to turn under a 3/16" seam as you stitch along by hand. This is the traditional method used by generations of quilters. Use a short length of Cotton 50 to avoid knots and makes stitches approx 1/8" apart.
